Mark van Voorst, Executive Director

Mark van Voorst is the Executive Director of The Arc New York, the largest nonprofit organization in New York State serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc New York supports 60,000 individuals, employs 30,000 people, and has more than 100,000 members, and 48 Chapters across the state.

Prior to joining The Arc New York, Mark served as Chief Executive Officer at Lifespire for 16 years, a New York City nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting New Yorkers with developmental disabilities so they can be independent, become integrated into their neighborhoods, and contribute to society. Mark devoted the first 23 years of his career advancing through various operational management levels at The Arc New York’s Jefferson County Chapter and Fulton County Chapter. He holds membership and leadership roles with numerous trade associations such as the Interagency Council, NYSRA, NYSID, New York Integrated Network, and is currently serving as Chair of the Human Resources Committee for Care Design NY, LLC.

Nancy E. Cannon, Associate Chief Operating Officer

Nancy E. Cannon, Associate Chief Operating Officer, has administered programs for NYSARC, Inc. for over 25 years. She has provided technical assistance and support to NYSARC Chapters and families. Ms. Cannon was assigned nine times as Acting Executive Director to oversee NYSARC Chapters across the state. In her role with NYSARC, she was also a liaison with State agencies in program and fiscal areas, regulatory change, and new initiatives. Ms. Cannon has worked extensively on guardianship, aging issues, and publications relating to aging, hospice and palliative care for people with disabilities. 

Ms. Cannon transferred to NYSARC, Inc. Trust Services in 2012 where she strives to bring her knowledge, caring and integrity to the administration and operation of the expanding Trust Services division.

Ms. Cannon attended Connecticut College and then Goucher College for her undergraduate studies in microbiology and Cornell University for her graduate studies in business and plant sciences. Following graduate school she was recruited to build and operate a greenhouse range and landscape business to offer therapy and employment for people for disabilities. That business is still successfully operating today. Ms. Cannon then worked at the Saratoga County Chapter of NYSARC, Inc. and subsequently accepted a position at the corporate office of NYSARC, Inc.
